Berlins' Loss Highland Gains
26/04/2010

We were due to fly to Berlin for a 4 day break the day the UK airports were shut down due to the Iclandic Volcano ash. Disapointed not to go, we acted quickly so not to waste our time off and hired a car and headed for the Scottish Highlands. 1 night in Braemar 3 in Ballater.
We explored the stunning Glen Dee west of Braemar. It's basically a road to nowhere running along the River Dee with the most beautiful scenery you could imagine - we felt like we were in a Grizzly Adams movie! Then onto Ballater in the heart of Royal Deeside. And the Windsors are not kicking about the area by mistake, it's superb. Walking, Swimming, Golf, Skiing, Fishing, Cyling and some of those sports posh people do all on your door step.
Great people, food and places to stay and there's even a quaint old pub where the landlord triples up as an Inn Keeper, Petrol Pump Attendant and Farmer who was actually delivering lambs during our visit stopping only for a 'wee dram o' single malt! Get up there ASAP!! Jonathan Platt
