Exposed at the Tate
03/06/2010
Tate Modern is one of my favourite buildings in London, not only is it a wonderful modern use of a space that holds a great collection on permanent display. But it also has vast temporary exhibitions that really challenge the visitor.
'Exposed' is a fascinating example of what art is there to do. A vast collection of photographs and videos all captured in the moment that are truly compelling.
The imagery is taken from all over the world, from a variety of people. Some deal with world events, such as the iconic imagery from the Vietnam war and others deal with personal moments, both tragedy and triumph.
Within the exhibition you'll find a few 'oh my' moments, not just the sexual imagery that confronts you at near life size, but also the images of events that are rarely dealt with, the collection of photos that document an actual suicide proving to be some of the most though provoking I have seen.
The exhibition is full of moments that make you question yourself, it challenges you to think about the context of the images and mixes comedy and love with the darker sides of human society. I can't recommend the exhibition enough.
